Welcome to SNC Books for Good, a book club learning adventure, where we will choose a different book on professional or organizational development, summarize key points, and weigh in on how it could be effective (or not!) for your organization.
Thank you to everyone for your feedback in voting for your favorites from our last blog post. For our first book, we will start with the #1 pick: Daring Greatly: How the Courage to be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead by Brene Brown.
Brene Brown is a fellow Texan and Social Worker who has dedicated much of her career studying vulnerability, courage, authenticity, and shame. If you haven’t seen her TED talk on the power of vulnerability, check it out below. It’s one of the most highly viewed TED Talks and you will see why!
The Social Worker and Texan in me is super excited to go on this reading journey with you. The other exciting thing is that this book comes with a set of guiding questions you can choose to follow along with https://brenebrown.com/downloads/.
How do you engage with Books for Good?
Step 1: Get the book and start reading! My favorite places for books include Half Price Books, borrowing from a friend, or Amazon. If you need assistance with obtaining a book, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Step 2: Share your comments on the book as you are reading it in the comment section below or in the comments section on the Facebook post.
Step 3: On the last day of the month SNC will share a book summary on the blog and Facebook that will focus on how the book's insights could benefit you and your organization along with engaging questions for us to ponder and virtually discuss. Step 4: SNC will post the pick for the next month and start again!
Thanks to everyone’s interest in taking part in a book club for good. Can’t wait to share more with you as we embark on reading for positive change.
Cheers,
